Clear filtersR4 is an FIA homologated category for four-wheel drive rally cars, designed to give privateer drivers access to 4WD competition at a lower cost than full WRC-class machinery. R4 cars use production-derived four-wheel drive systems and engines up to 2,000 cc, making them significantly more affordable to run than factory-spec cars.
The R4 class allows modified versions of road-going four-wheel drive cars, giving many different base models the opportunity to compete. These cars are well suited to rough-road rallies and national championships where the traction advantage of 4WD is particularly valuable.
R4-eligible cars include various production 4WD models converted for rally competition under FIA R4 technical regulations.
